Hi,

I want to make a infared motion detector to hook up to my basic
stamp so that i can make it trip a camra to take pic's when something
walks by. is there any way to do this without having a beam that
needs to be triped. Please help have no idea were to start. i dont
have any experence with IR

Thank you,
Malcolm

I have a packaged IR detector meant to be used with an alarm
system. I bought it some years ago and never used it. It
is much like the kind you see attached to outdoor lights.
It needs a DC supply and has terminals to be connected to
"Normally Closed loop of control panel". I am sure it has a
NC set of contacts in it, which it opens when it is tripped.
It is an IR-830 by IR-TEC. I think I might have bought it
from All Electronics, if I am not mistaken. It looks like a
good way to handle your need.

I have used standard security system wired and wireless IR motion
sensors for museum exhibits. The most recent motion sensing devices
that I used was a touchless IR switch (range up to 3ft) and a
microwave based motion sensor that can descriminate between incoming
forward motion and outgoing walking away from motion. Radio Shack has
some standard security system IR motion sensors.

    Thanks,
    Guy

We have a new 8-pin PIC that can be used for infrared detector circuits, IR
serial communications, and works great with the Stamp. All you need is
an IR detector, IR LED, a 4MHz resonator, and this 8-pin PIC.

You can find schematics on the same page for a simple IR object detection
    circuit with relay control.

This is a great site for this application... although the basic stamp is
not technically needed there are some interesting ideas on interfacing
    to passive IR detectors.

Yow! I just read my own post and realized that the most important part
is missing.... the URL to the site (DUH...) so sorry!!! Here it is...

any way, great site with ideas on interfacing passive IR detectors to
cheap autowind cameras for automatic photography.
