Same story here. I tried two different laptops (toshiba & hp, both
running xp) and two different usb-to-serial converters... no go...
everything a-ok when connected to my clunky old desktop... parallax had no
answers... would love to hear a solution... or at least an explanation.

    I 'm trying to begin stamp for about a month,but always failed

    I have basic stamp 2p.I'm using io gear usb to serial

    converter,stampw editor ver 1.32,and providing 9 V for power.

    When I download program from my laptop ,monitor shows that

    Echo Yes,loopback No. I can see the led on the port convert

    turns on and off . Download,however,fails.

    My laptop is IBM thinkpad i Series 1200 ,and OS is win 98.

    How can I solve the problem?

    I have both a II and IIsx. Both failed in different ways on the download
    using an old-ish Gateway Pentium 166 running Windows 98. The II at least
    responded to the terminal when I reset it, but it's message to me was "Unit
    Failed".

    I pulled out an old 486/100 running windows 95 and it worked the first time.

    I don't know what the problem was, but I never solved it. It took me a
    month to decide to use another desktop computer, and FIVE MINUTES to make it
    work!

    I blame Microsoft.

    I have the same problem with a 266mhz Toshiba laptop
    that I use for all my field work. The only software
    that will work with it is version 1.1 or earlier. 1.2
    and newer just gives the no loopback error. Parallax
    has had no answer as to why.
