- Selectable Baud rates from 300-56000
The software consists of an Excel Macro, complete on-line help, the
interactive Visual BASIC program, BASIC Stamp 2 code examples and the
necessary serial comms. It's all handled from a single install.
StampDAQ is easy to use. Download and install the software, run the sample
BASIC Stamp 2 code and pay special attention to the SEROUT command (shows
the format of data for StampDAQ). Start Excel and launch the macro using
ctrl-S. Data streams into Excel!
The uses include easy spreadsheet analysis of data collected in the field,
laboratory analysis of sensors and real-time equipment monitoring.
Get your StampDAQ install today at: http://www.parallaxinc.com/stampdaq

I see that the Excel macro uses SelmaDAQ.ocx for its serial connection to
the Stamp. Is this component licensable as a development component (not
just for run-time)?
I am looking for a better method for PC <--> Stamp and PC<--> PIC serial
processing. I am currently using MSComm32.ocx.

The SelmaDAQ may possibly be used in development because of the way
it installed, but the StampDAQ copyright states that use of it
requires Selmaware's consent.
Basically, I am going to spruce it up a bit, write some docs on it,
and see about 'selling' it. I'm more concerned with distributed
programs than individual uses. I am building in some good routines
such as CRC16, checksums, conversion for higher level 'packeting'.
We may use it on-campus at SIU in teaching students about protocols.
Still kinda pondering things with it.
If you have any more questions, please feel free to contact me
directly.

I d/l the zip file and unzipped it to it's own directory. I guessed and ran
the Setup file which seems to be OK. But I now have several files in this
directory and don't know what to do now. You mention running the stamp
program, but I don't see a .bs2 file. Help!

Also, see the help files for each example.
1) Download the BS2 File (simple test)
2) Open the Excel File.
3) From the StampDAQ interface (press Ctrl-S if it doesn't appear...
it should) Select the comm port and press connect.
4) Should have data flowing.
If you are testing the data dump, click the "Download Data" checkbox
to request the Stamp to send the data.
If you are using a BS2SX or BSP you need to change the Baud mode
constant to 240 for 9600 Baud.
Let me know how it goes,

9600 baud.
All to do with clock division to get the right speed.
The Stamps vary in speed. You divide by 84 on the BS2, or 240 on the BS2P
or SX.
Hope that helps

Baudmode Calculation:
Determine the bit period (bits 0 - 11)
BS2 and BS2e = INT(1,000,000 / baud rate) - 20
BS2sx and BS2p = INT(2,500,000 / baud rate) - 20
Note: INT means 'convert to integer;' drop the numbers to the right of the
decimal point.
Set data bits and parity (bit 13)
8-bit / No Parity = 0
7-bit / Even Parity = 8192
Select polarity bit (bit 14)
True = 0
Inverted = 16384
Select driven or open output (bit 15)
Driven = 0
Open = 32768
==end extract
So 8-bit, No Parity, TRUE =84 or 240 depending on processor instruction
speed
Thanks for your help. I got this new software working
on my computer.
I got few more questions. How can i format the time so
that it initializes the first data point as 0 sec. I
want time in seconds rather than HR:Min:Sec format.
I can see the data streaming in. But is it possible to
plot it as the data comes in. I like to see a graph
which is updated with every data that comes in.

Do You Yahoo!?
Everything you'll ever need on one web page

As far as plotting data as it comes in, if you look near the bottom
of Excel pn left is a Tab that reads something like "With plots". It
is set up to plot data in columns 2 and 3 for you.
As far as Time starting from 0, in Excel you may be able to perform a
math operation to get time down to seconds, other than that it would
take some macro changes.
By default, I set the first column up for time, but feel free to
change the cell format to anything you like.
An important point with StampDAQ is that it just brings in your data,
what you do with it and save it as with Excel is up to you....
average data, plot it, find the mean, etc etc. What I can't do here
is try to teach Excel, and frankly, I ain't that good with fancy
stuff in Excel :)
Feel free to post questions, someone will have an answer for ya :)
There's some pretty sharp people on this board!
