Servos, basics of BASIC Stamps

Hi, I've been looking at BASIC Stamps and robotics for about a day
now and I'm wondering about a few things:

1. Where can I find more info? (web, books, etc? Specific titles and
urls?)
2. How does the BASIC Stamp IC connect to the RC Servo?
3. What's a good, cheap Servo and where can I get it? (small, not too
strong)
4. How much will it cost to make a simple Stamp-controlling-a-servo-
bot?

Thanks!

If you want free, download all of the documents from Parallax, especially
the BoE and BoEBot stuff -- including how to control a servo.

The Nuts & Volts of Basic Stamps books covers a much broader scope -- not
just robotics. These are also a worthwhile investment.

As far as servos, the Futaba S148 is about the easiest to hack -- you need a
    screwdriver and an Exacto knife.

    1. Look through the documentation at www.Parallax.com . Search the archives
of this list at yahoo. Search the web - there are too many urls to list. Ask
    question here.

    2. There a three leads on a servo. You need to work out which is which. One
is a positive power lead, one is a ground and one is a control lead. The
positive power lead goes to the positive terminal of a 4.8V-6V power
source(do not use the +Vdd on the stamp). The ground lead goes to the
negative terminal of the same power source, and also to the ground pin of
the basic stamp(labelled Vss). The control pin goes to one of the Stamps
    input/output pins, (usually labelled 1-16)

    3. Just go to your local hobby shop and get the cheapest servo. Hitec are
cheap. Towerhobbies or servocity.com sell cheap hitec servos for about
    $10US.

    4. You need the servos, the stamp, a stamp carrier board, a
powersupply(batteries or plug adapter), and some sort of physical structure
for the robot. The minimum would probably be 2 servos(for two wheels),
stamp, stamp carrier board and some wheels, batteries and wood. You could
probably do it for around about $100US

I would highly recommend the Boe-Bot Full Kit from Parallax Inc.

    http://www.parallaxinc.com

They are currently back ordered... but definitely worth the wait. If you
are just starting out... this will be perfect for you.

Also... referring to your question #3... don't forget that unmodified servos
(like you buy at the hobby store) do not have continuous rotation and must
be "hacked" in order to use them as drive motors.
