When using the Serial Out command on the BS2, is an inverter or line
driver required for 'standard serial output? I want to interface to a
serial LCD display. I prefer not to use the pin connected to the
computer used for uploading and downloading programs.

Leroy, you can use any pin for serout , N9600.
