Are you sure about the part number. The only p30a I know of is a 5kp30a
which is a 5000 watt transient voltage suppressor. If that is the right part
number you might try Parallax,

I do not think you would be able to hurt this regulator by shorting the PIC
pins. The LM2936 has very good short circuit protection built in.
Shorting the pins can damage the PIC, which in turn might cause the PIC to
ask for more than the 50 milliamps available from the regulator, forcing it
to go into shut down mode.
