Electronics Group in Northern NJ / NYC area

Hello,
I am looking for an actual electronics group the the Northern NJ/NYC
area.
I don't mean a virtual group or an email group, I mean a real life
group where real people meet in real-time and build, demonstrate,
learn, and discuss electronics projects together.
It could be an actual "club" or just an informal group of folks who
like to hang out and discuss electronics, show each other stuff they
made and support interest in electronics hobbies.
Particularly projects that involve the BASIC Stamp micro-controller.
Sharing "how did you do that" or "where did you buy those" type
questions, among many others.
There is nothing like seeing and operating the electronics projects
we build to appreciate and learn from them.
If I cannot find such a group in my area, I will form one.
If you are aware of any such groups or if you are interested in
joining any such group please post a reply to this thread.
Peace,
Martin

If I were you I would check out your local amateaur radio club. When I first got
involved with ham radio I was suprised at just how much the "old timers" knew.
At least here most of the ham radio guys are retired Electrical Engineers. Ham
radio people are almost always technically inclinded and are always willing to
help. Education and helping others is part of what ham radio is about. When I
was 14 years old one of the retired EE's took the time out and helped me build a
2 meter transceiever that used a phased locked loop. At age 14 there was no way
I could have done anything close to that but with his supervision I worked on it
every single day for like 6 months and when I finally started seeing it work I
couldn't believe how exciting it was!!! If I were you I would definately check
out your local ham radio club. I think if you do some asking around you will be
suprised at what you find!!!

of the local ham radio club called the "homebrew sig" -- once a month we
meet for breakfast on Saturday and many people bring things they are
building or have built. Some bring magazine articles or books or gear.
Some people just show up to see what everyone else has brought.
This has been a very good format and has brought together a lot of old
timers with people who want to build stuff. We are fortunate in our area
to have lots of talented designers. There is always some microcontroller
stuff and usually some RF stuff as well.
On July 26th I will celebrate 25 years as a ham, BTW.

Well Happy birthday on your ham ticket. My first ten year ticket runs
out in September. I figured out how to renew it on line, but am a month
or so early. Have a nice day!!
