off topic: windmill generator

Hi everyone!
This is a bit off topic, but who else would know this sort of thing?
I want to build a small windmill to recharge batteries for a 12 volt system
that will supply around 15Amps night and 1 amp day (mostly for lights). I
was thinking i would use a car alternator as the turbine, and build some
blades for the rotor myself. Anybody know about some resources that might
explain the subtle details of this? Any direct experience?
thanks,

I'm not sure how big your local library is but if it has the 2000-2001 edition
of the ARRL (Amateur Radio Relay League) handbook I remember seing a generator
that used an alternator along with a 3.5 horsepower gas engine as a generator. I
know this isn't exactly what your trying do to but it might you get gear ratios
and such figured out.
Good Luck!
