encoders and steppers

Hi all,

I'm trying to build a mini robot wich must follow a path (not line
follower but something like a maze) and I don't know which method is
better to keep the wheels go in parallel.
Is it better to use stepper motors or DC motors with wheel encoders,
or a combination of stepper and encoders?
