Hi Stampers
Does anyone know a good source to help explain the advantages, disadvantages
and compatabilites of the different logic families that are out there.
First it was the 7400 series then C, LS, S, HC, HCT, and the CD 4000 series.
Most of these have IC's that perform the exact function but in different
families.

A few weeks back reference was made to some book that I saw several of you
recommend. I was thinking of ordering it but I lost the name of this book.
Would this book cover this type information? I asked TI on their web site if
they had any info on the different families but haven't received a reply in
over 1 month.

    I think the book you are talking about was The Art of Electronics by
    Horowitz & Hill.

    The best source I have found are the Motorola and National Semiconductor data
    books. The main differences are device voltage level, device current
    consumption, I/O source and/or sink current, I/O logic voltage level, and speed
    between the familys. Also when connecting a number of IC's on a common pin of
    another IC, you need to consider the(can't remember the technical term), load on
    that pin.
