Dear Customers,

The Parallax Graphic Artist (Jen) and our company would like to hire an
artist to prepare a Stamps in Class tutorial on using the BASIC Stamp in
your art projects. Jen provided the following for our customer e-mail
list(s):

==================
Attention: Art Educators
==================

Parallax, Inc. would like to develop a new curriculum for the Stamps In
Class program. Tentatively named “Interactive Art with BASIC Stamps”, this
new text will focus on how to use the BASIC Stamp to make your art
installations come alive. We are looking for an author to write this text.

There are infinite types of art installations, so the text should be a
collection of applications that will enable students to pick and choose the
features they would like their project to possess. Our goal is to appeal to
art students, many of whom have no prior electronics experience.
“Interactive Art with BASIC Stamps” will need to be written by someone who
has worked with these types of students and who understands their
requirements.

We have a 6-month timeline for work to be completed on “Interactive Art with
BASIC Stamps.” If you are interested in writing this curriculum, please
provide us with the following:

· Your contact information
· A brief description of your background and experience
· Cost estimate for work to be provided.
· Timeline for completion of work.

Below is a basic outline of what we would like the text to include (flexible
based on author):

Chapter 1: Short intro to BASIC Stamps, PBASIC programming, using a
breadboard, and how to write a complete program.

Middle Chapters to include source code and considerations for the following
projects:
· Controlling light and LEDs
· User interface/Interactivity:
· Controlling pushbuttons
· Controlling switches
· Light/dark detection
· Sound: making neat sounds of different types
· Using sensors (pressure, direction, ultrasonic, infrared, heat, motion,
magnetic)
· Controlling stepper motors, DC motors, servos, power transistors, drivers,
solenoids
· Programming an LCD display
· Random timing and randomizing events
· Electrical interfaces for equipment being controlled (high voltage?)
· Sound and image following
· Remote control with infrared / RF? (too expensive?)

Last Chapter: Considerations for exhibiting kinetic/robotic/electronic art
displays.

PARTS KIT: could be a box of goodies specified by the author or a custom kit
specified by the teacher. To be decided.

Please send in an email expressing your interest to: jjacobs@p...
Or fax 916/624-8003 - Attn: Jen Jacobs
All applications must be received by 06/21/02.

Sincerely,

Ken Gracey, Parallax Inc.
