I'd like to get started on PIC Microcontrollers and want to
program in C.

Hi,
Where are you ?
How much are you willing to invest in a compiler ?
What type of C do you want to use (ANSI / C++ / Proprietary) ?
What kind of projects do you have in mind (Robotics / Data Logging / Other)
?

The answers to these questions will help you understand what kind of PIC you
need to get started. Try PICList (www.piclist.com) first.
