fingerprint scanners

Hi, I was just looking at an ad for a fingerprint scanner called 'secure
touch' by biometeric access ($59). Has anybody ever interfaced any circuits
with a fingerprint scanner? Recommendations? Is that a reasonable project
for a mid level hobby electronics fool? I'd love to make my computer
"fingerprint" accessible (or my liquor cabinet for that matter).

Cost $89.00. Comes with software for WinXP.

A Google search on "fingerprint scanner" turns up more links.

I think it's a doable project as far as hardware goes, but the fingerprint
matchng software could be a real bear to write. A turnkey solution will be
cheaper if you value your time at anything over $1 per hour. (In my case
    10 cents an hour.)

Ed, I saw it in a print ad for "hsc electronic supply" it's a full page ad
in the new issue of Nuts and Volts (may 2002). The companies web site is
http://www.halted.com, but I couldn't find the finger print scanner on the
site so I didn't post the link. It says it uses the printer port for
    interfacing and comes with diskette.

It seems as someone mentioned there are lots of products like this on the
net, so I'd love to hear if you or anyone tries and likes an affordable
    product or system.

I've been interested in hooking up a biometric
fingerprint scanner also. Seems reasonable. Could you
post where you saw this. Someday I will hook one up
and will be checking into some.
