Interface pinouts for a HP LaserJet IIP LCD Panel

I just tore apart a nice old HP Laserjet printer to get at all the
parts inside, and it has a neat little tiny LCD panel that I would
really like to use. But I am not sure what the pinouts are for it. It
is a 16 pin connector, and the first 14 don't match a regular Hitachi
based PCD panel. It has six push button panel switches and 4 LED's
wired to the connector off to one side through a 10 pin connector.
That used up the first 8 pins on the 16 pin connector going to the
LCD PCB. the rest go to the LCD and provide power. Could this be a
simple serial interface for the LCD panel?
Although they could use the other 8 to run the LCD in a bit parallel
mode?
Thanks
