problems with BS2SX module

I'm working with the SX chip with one of the starter kits and when I
try to debug a simple output (debug "hello") I keep getting a variety
of error messages. If I have the preferences of the compiler set to
autodetect the com port it says it has foud the BSIISX module but
cannot download the program. If I select the com port, it no longer
detects it. No matter what settings I change my computer will not
interface with the module. I've checked the power supply (tried a
battery and the adapter), I've switched to different com ports, I've
tried using different stamp module settings, and I've even tried it
on several different computers. There must be something wrong with
the chip. I've contacted tech support but they aren't helping me in
any way.

I suggest double checking the cable etc, as I have used hundreds of bs2sx's,
and NEVER had a problem, though I have been in the situation of tearing my
hair out (whats left of it) and been ready to contact my Parralax
distributor only to find a program or hardware fault.

    Regards,
    Chris

Is it possible you have something else running that is consuming either
the com port or its compliment? (On many PCs, you can't use COM1 and 3
at the same time; COM2 and 4 are also complimentary on most PCs).

Prime suspects: Palm or WinCE "hot sync" software, fax modems, caller
    ID...

Just to add my $.02 to Al's suggestions, I have developed several
interfaces that use serial touch screens. I intercept the serial packets
with the stamp on COM2 and do the stamp development on COM1. Sometimes, the
touch screen software will auto search for the COM ports when it starts up
and will lock out use of COM1 even though the touch screen hardware is on
COM2. This has happened with several different computers and with three
    versions of Windows.
