controlling the Basic 2SX using audio.

Is it possible to control the stamp using audio? Here's what I mean:
I want to play an audio file on my PC or my MP3 player. One one of
the stereo sound channels, the song/music would play. The other
sound channel has codes that tell the stamp what to do (i.e. I could
make an animatronic bird sing along to a song or talk along with the
voice, much like the Teddy Ruxpin toy). I just don't know what
electronics to use between the audio source and the stamp, or what
coding is needed to recognize the signal and set it's variables
accordingly. I have a Stamp Strecher 1B kit, so I can use that A/D
converter easily.
Thanks for reading this.

track to have analog information which was converted using ADC into
instructions. ANother approach might be to use something like SMPTE to
generate digital sync pulses from the tape which the stamp could interpret
and trigger things at given intervals.
