Stamp power up problem

Can someone tell me why my stamp powered device will not properly start up when
I power it on and my cable for programming the thing is still plugged in. When
I unplug the cable the thing powers up fine. If I have the cable plugged in and
the stamp editor running with a debug window open it powers up ok to. I thought
this was a bug in the older editor version that was going to be fixed?

I plug into certain serial ports while using the built in power
supply on the stamp. I believe the problem is the stamp's built-in
power supply does not have enough guts to power itself ni these
cases. To fix it, use an external 5VDC regulator to power the stamp
and anything else hooked up to it. You can get it in a ceramic
package with a n little heat sync on it at RadioShack for a couple
bucks. The ones I use are LM340T5 which I belive are 1 amp, 5 olt
regulators that you can feed any unregulated DC power source into up
to 24 or 30 volts.
