I will have to look through both of the suggestions to see if they
will help, but I will explain exactly what I want to do.

I want to install a stamp unit, between a PC keyboard and the PC.
There will also be a second device, not a keyboard, that will be
used to simulate a group of keystrokes under certain circumstances.
Anyone who has seen a keyboard wedge for a barcode scanner, it will
be similar to this. Basically when the user presses certain keys on
this second device,it will send a sequence of Keys. (ie F4, F3,
etc..) At the same time, the keyboard can still be used.

As I understand, and correct me if I am wrong, the keyboard sends
synchronous data that is clocked out the data pin via the clock
signal. I should be able to clock this in with the stamp, and clock
it out set of pins. Does this sound correct?

    Thanks for all the help.

    Jody

Here is a link to a PC Keyboard FAQ. It should give you all the information
you are seeking in terms of timing and protocol:

Sounds similar to one of my work projects. I've got to come up with
something that will mimic pressing keys on a keyboard so I can mount one or
two buttons on a test fixture and not have to deal with a whole keypad.

As far as what you want to do, a Microsoft Strategic Commander or similar
game controller may be a better deal. It will record and playback keystrokes
when a button is pressed. It is USB though.
