I need to drive 3" CC LED 7-seg displays (4 digists). This IC seems
to fit the bill perfectly. Has anyone used it? Any feedback?

thanks

    For Al

Have not used that chip but have used the MAX7219, which will drive 8 digits.
Seems to work very well. Requires 3 inputs, data, load and clock.

The problem however is that the MAX7219 would not provide that
voltage nor current required by my display. Which means that I will
have to add some source drivers to the circuit that will complicate
    life for me....

Can you use common anode displays? If so, the TPIC6595 is a great little
driver chip. They cascade easily so that you need only 3 lines from the
Stamp and each output can sink 250 mA / 50 Vdc. But they are sinking
    outputs only.

How much current do you need per line? I just built a working driver for 8
Volts @ 100mA per line.. let me know..
