I'm not too experienced with Basic Stamps, but I've been using this
one for a few months without any significant problems. However, now
suddenly the Windows stamp editor cannot recognize the Stamp when I
try to run a program. I ohmed out the serial cable, it's still good.
The power LED on the Super Carrier board lights when a battery is
connected to the voltage regulator. I looked at all of the pins with
an o-scope: Vdd and S-out have 5VDC; Vss, Vin, and ATN have 0V; and S-
in has nearly 4V. Most i/o pins have near 0V except 2 and 3 which
have 1.2V. This can't be explained by the last program loaded to the
stamp.

Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

Dan, I just had this problem after loading the new Editor software.
I had to change my Com port setting but do not remember which one fixed it.

Also, carefully measure the voltage on the stamp input pin #1. It should be
a negative voltage and will go toward ground when you do a Verify from the
software. Pin 2 should likewise take a dip in voltage if the stamp
responses back.

A scope may tell you more.

Good luck, Kirk

Thanks for the suggestions, but unfortunately the chip is gone. I called tech
support, they suggested testing the oscillator, apparently this usually quits
working when the BS2 does. I looked at it, it wasn't doing anything so I ordered
another one and everything works now.

I also have a BS2 that quit working and another one fixed the problem.
I checked the regulated 5vdc on pin 22 and it is good.

Anyone have good troubleshooting tips or is someone repairing them?

One of the BS2's that we had did the same thing. Strange this was
that the Stamp was still running the program that was last
downloaded to it. (even sending back debug data) but it would not
accept programming commands. Even the identify command would not
recognize the unit. Put a new BS2 in the same slot, with the same
hardware, same cable, same pc, and it worked fine. Strange..

I had a BS1 Rev. D do the same thing -- I contacted Parallax and they sent
me a replacement processor.

Subject: [basicstamps] Re: Unresponsive BS2SX,

Mine (BS2) also have the same problem. After loading some program, and
running it works fine. But after disconnecting the power from the BS2 and
after few days when I connected the stamps it already running the previously
loaded program. Then I couldn't load any programs with stamp2.exe, but I
ultimately got around the problem with Basic Stamp Editor V1.3, with that
you can load new programs.

Dn.
