Rs232-->usb??

While I've not used them personally (my comm port seems to work well), my
boss's machine has no RS-232 ports and he uses a USB <-> Serial converter for
programming Stamps. It works great. I believe it's made by Belden [sp?] and
costs about $30.

Some work and some don't. The adapters made by Belkin work. Cost $25 -
$35, and usually available at your local Staples or other large business
supply store.
I have had good luck with the belkin mod#f5u109
it is a pda adapter but it works.

I've been using it on a Pentium II machine running Windows 98. The Keyspan
driver installation went very smooth. I've programmed my BSII hundreds of
times, and have also used the converter with my camera and other RS232
devices without a single problem.
What type of PC and operating system are you trying to us it with?

I'm using a Compaq notebook.

I tried a regular belkin I don't remember the model #
it was about $80.00 but it didn't work then I tried the keyspan and that
didn't work finally someone mentioned this belkin pda adapter and it has
been working.
one thing I must mention I have also been doing some things with pic's and
bootloaders and it has also been working with it.

and Keyspan makes USB to RS232 and USB to RS422 (PC or Mac) adapters.
I haven't had any trouble at all with the Keyspan's. Looking forward also
to making a Stamp based USB gadget.

purchased to work, and IOGear is far from helpful. They claim the
drivers for win2000 should work, but they don't. There is problem on
laptops without any native serial ports. the OS doesn't load
the .dll files or something, and this makes it impossible for the
adapter to work properly. The only way to do it is to add
a "virtual" serial port, which I can't figure out how to do in XP.
Just FYI.

Edgeports from Inside Out Networks. These are mostly sold for use in POS
applications and other commercial venues so they are not cheap. On this
PC I have 10 serial ports, 6 on two edgeports and 4 in the box. They all
work great. And yes, 8 of them are constantly connected to something.

I'm getting sick of dealing with the strange com port on my system and
curious if anyone has any experience working with RS232-->USB adapter
cables? Do they work properly with the stamp & other straight-thru
devices? Thanks...
