Interfacing BS1 and My Computer

I am unable to get my laptop to talk to my BS1 on a super carrier board. I
am booting under DOS off a floppy and it appears to connect, then says
"EEPROM verify failure." I have searched the Parallax site, and other
internet resources for hours, and can't find anything other than the code
for the message is 304. I have tried two different BS1's with the same
result. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Well, I have found part of the answer. And since there appeared to be
nothing in the archives about this, I'll answer myself here for the next
person. After having tried it on two different machines, a 850 MHz laptop
and a 1000 MHz tower (both in win 2000 and DOS from a floppy), I went to my
storage locker and dug out an old 100 MHz laptop running windows 95. It
    worked first try.

So, although I still don't know what won't work, a Pentium 100 running win
95 and running stamp.exe in a window does work.
