A/D Converters

Hello Everyone:

I am looking for an A/D converter that has the
following characteristics:

a. can sample a waveform every 200 microseconds or so
(speed not important here)
b. a sample time of less than 1 microsecond (speed
needed here)
c. serial output (8 or 12 bit)
d. dip pin compatible (for prototyping/breadboarding)
e. single channel, 5VDC unipolar power supply

I have checked out the linear technologies website
without a whole lot of success - unless I want to go
to an surface mount chip and this would make
prototyping and breadboarding really "fun". Anyone
have any ideas, thoughts, suggestions or alternative
suppliers?

Thanks.

Gerry Shand

    For Gerry

Take a look at Texas Instruments TLC2543.

Maxim MAX187, 12 bits, single channel, built-in reference.

Do you realise that the stamp will not be able to get anywhere near
    these sample speed rates?

    Gerry,
you can also try ADS 1286, much cheaper than MAX part and available
    trough Digikey.

Arthur is correct. This TI/Burr-Brown part has a similar serial
interface to the MAX187, and both interface easily with Stamps. But for
commercial applications controlled by PICs, I'm moving away from
discrete ADCs and using PICS like the 16C773 which has a built-in 12-bit
    ADC.
