GP2D02 only reads 255

I have hooked this sensor up per the Acroname site and tried their
code but all it reads is "Start" I also tried another site (sorry the
name slips my mind at the moment)that uses a voltage divider instead
of the diode and all it reads is 255. Any ideas? I didn't find a
solution in the arcive. Thanks for any help.

Then sleep on it and check again. Recheck the diode sveral times too, it
could be in backwards. Then think carefully about which pin is input and
output to/from the device.
I had this problem and it turned out I had the two I/O pins reversed (input
versus output, et cetera). When I finally got that all sorted out and
working OK the device worked pretty good.
The code examples actually work. But I do remember tweaking the distance
formulas a little for my purposes, not because they were incorrect though.
