bs2sx and bs2p24 device failure

Hi,
I am currently experiencing some strange behaviour on a bs2sx and a bs2p24.
I have a board that is populated with an SX18 @ 50MHz and a basic stamp that
communicate
using 3 I/O lines. Everything downloaded ok until suddenly the stamp (2p24)
was no longer
recognized. I only did about 50 downloads or so. I replaced it with a bs2sx
and downloaded
the program. Everything ok. That was yesterday.
Now today the bs2sx (after several downloads) is also no longer recognized.
As soon as I select the function Identify
from the editor, the bs2sx goes into reset and stays in reset, even after
disconnecting
the serial cable. Only a power recycle helps. The program within the stamp
then just runs fine.
I know the bs2sx is in reset because I have a buzzer that is connected to an
I/O pin via a NPN transistor
and the buzzer sounds as soon as the I/O pin is made an input.
Does anybody have any clue what is going on?
I hate to think there is a design flaw in the stamp regarding the download
section.
Regards peter

I discovered what is going on. The SX18 MRCLR input that is connected
to the stamp RESET pin is the cause. When I leave the MRCLR disconnected
the stamp is recognized. When I put in a fresh SX18 with the MRCLR
connnected everything is ok too. So it appears the SX18 after several
download cycles alters the electrical specs of the MRCLR input, somehow
holding the resetline below the treshold value or driving it high.
Can someone explain this?
What is the max. electrical load that may be connected between the
stamp reset line and GND (I know the resetline has a 47k pullup and may not
be driven high,
but I guess the MRCLR input somehow does after several downloads).

So it is safe to connect a 4.7k external pullup between stamp resetline and
5V ?
(this way any current drawn by the SX18 MRCLR input will not create a
voltage dropdown on the resetline)

The BS2 drives the RESET pin, but I think the BS2SX and P do not drive
it -- it is only an input.

isn't the current drain from the SX, but rather the fact that you have
two inputs connected together floating. I won't swear to that though.
