Ds1620 question and vco question for all to ponder

Hello to all stampers. I have a 2 part question for the group.
question 1.
Has anyone played with the thermostat program listed in the old BS1 app note
manual back in 1996? I've tried it and it doesn't seem to work. I need to set
the high and low temps on a DS1620 to turn a small fan on and off as per the
DS1620 app note with a MOSFET, but can't seem to figure out how to get a BS2
program to do the same as the one for the BS1. any help would be appreciated.
question 2.
Has anyone ever seen a schematic to convert RS-232 data to audio tones using a
VCO and then decode it back to data on the other end? Someone told me about an
EXAR part that they used to do it, but the part is discoed and I can't seem to
find any schematics or app notes to help. If anyone knows where to find it,
this too would be appreciated.
Thanks to all for any help.
sincerely,
Mike Mocenter

I have notes on the DS1620 modes with the BS2 posted at this URL:

Be sure you are sending the thresholds as 9 bits.
