pin 24 on BS2sx

Hi

I was wondering if I can directly hook up a 9V battery to pin 24 in
order to power up the BS2, etc? Or, do I need to add some caps, etc.
for caution? The manual says that the BS2 has an internal voltage
regualtor, and if I put in any voltage >5V on pin 24, that it would
be ok. However, I would like to make sure, before trying this out.

Yes, you can connect a 9V battery to pin 24. Just be sure you don't exceed
the onboard regulator limits. Pin 21 provides 5V from the Stamp regulator.

Ok... I was afraid of this... but, I put a 9V directly to pin 24, and
it worked. But, when I put it again, it didn't work. And now it
does not work by putting a 9V to that pin at all.

Any ideas? I need some help!

I would use a diode to ensure proper polarity. You didn't accidently connect
the battery up backward did you ?

nope..i didn't connect it backwards... its strange, it worked one
second..then when i connected it again, and since then, its not
    working...

    Hi

I was looking at my Board of Education and if I use a 9V battery it is
directly connected to Pin 24. Also I
looked at my Basic Stamp II carrier board and it is also directly connected to
    Pin 24. So connecting a 9V battery
to Pin 24 should be OK.

I also looked in the Basic Stamp Programing Manual 2.0b and for Pin 24 here
    are the specs;

BS2-IC 5.5 to 15 VDC and maybe unconnected if 5 volts is
    applied
    to VDD (+5V) Pin 21.

BS2-IC rev. e 6 to 40 VDC and maybe unconnected if 5 volts is
    applied
    to VDD (+5V) Pin 21.

    BS2e 5.5 to 12 VDC (7.5 recommended), and maybe
    unconnected
if 5 volts is applied to VDD (+5V) Pin
    21.

    BS2sx 5.5 to 12 VDC (7.5 recommended), and maybe
    unconnected
if 5 volts is applied to VDD (+5V) Pin
    21.

    BS2p24 5.5 to 12 VDC (7.5 recommended), and maybe
    unconnected
if 5 volts is applied to VDD (+5V) Pin
    21.

When you are not sure refer to the PDF files on the Parrallax or Stamps in
Class web sites. and use these for
    guidelines.
I have been doing electronics for 30+ years and I still look at data sheets and
books on common devices even if I
am certain that the information I know is correct.

    Hi

My problem is that I did directly connect the 9V to pin 24, and it
did work. But, now it is not (and I tried a new battery on it too),
and I do not know why it is not working now. When I check the pin, i
get 9V, but, the program says that "No basic Stamps found". And,
when I check the VDD pin, there is no voltage there either.

    any ideas?

    thanks
