Interfacing tiny IC packages?

Guys,

Nowadays the IC packages get smaller and smaller. Some do have larger
outline brothers, so do not. Recently I got some sample from MAX and first
when opened the box, thought that they have forgot to put the IC there - so
small they were.
Is there a good method of dealing with these tiny brats in a breadboard type
environment? Anyone came up with some kind of an adapter for these things?
I have some ideas myself, but just don't want to invent the bicycle, so to
speak.
Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated.

    Capitol makes "Surf boards" which are great for mounting little SOICs -
    you can buy them from DigiKey. They don't have stuff that handles the
    big stuff. Personally, I wish I knew a better way to handle the big 144
    pin packages and so forth. We make custom PC boards to handle them, but
    that's not very handy.

    I offer some little adapter PCBs for SO-8, SO-16, SO-28 for cheap. I
    haven't done SOT-23 types yet but will sometime in the future.

    The adapters come as a small board containing several adapters. You have
    to cut them apart with tin snips, solder on the SMT chip and add pins (I
    use cut-off resistor leads). The boards are double sided with plated thru
    holes and solder mask.

    The SO-8 adapters take narrow (0.15") and wide (0.20") chips up to 8 pins.
    The SO-16 adapters take narrow body (0.15") chips up to 16 pins.
    The SO-28 adapters take wide body (0.3") chips up to 28 pins.

    I currently have several different combinations:

    5 - SO-8 adapters $1.00 US
    2 - SO-8, 1 - SO-16, 1 - SO-28 $2.00 US
    3 - SO-8, 2 - SO-28 $3.00 US

    Add $1.00 US for shipping for up to 5 of the above cards.

    9 - SO-8, 4 - SO-16 $4.00 US inc shipping
    3 - SO-8, 4 - SO-16, 2 - SO-28 $5.00 US inc shipping
    3 - SO-8, 3 - SO-16, 2 - SO-28 $5.00 US inc shipping

    Important note about the SO-8 adapters: the SMT part is mounted on the
    UNDERSIDE of the adapter. There just isn't enough room to mount a 0.200"
    wide SO-8 with gull wing leads between 0.3" DIP spaced leads.
