interfacing with Windows 98?

I'm currently taking a class where I have to use a Basic Stamp II.
The problem is that I can't get my computer to recognize the stamp
board when I connect through my serial port. I'm using a Toshiba
Satellite laptop running Windows 98 version 1. I also have a friend
who's using the same OS that can't get it to connect either.
Everyone else in the class has no problems with it. Any ideas about
why it might not want to connect, or suggestions on how I might get
it to work? Thanks.

There could be a couple of reasons for not being able to connect to the
stamp. The first is that on some laptops, the ports output at a different
signal strength than the stamp can recognize. The other is that some other
software package is using the port or is attached to the port and you will
need to disable it.
Find the archives of this list and search for articles that are asking for
help with connecting to the stamp.
