LED project

Hi All,
I am pretty new to this and need some help. I have the Basic Stamp
BS2SX and the Basic Stamp 2 carrier board and want to do the first
project in the Stamp works book lighting up a LED. I don't
understand how to wire the LED to the board.
The book says that each of the general-purpose I/O pins can source
and sink 30 mA. What is source and sink? Does that mean the pins
can output up to 30 mA or take in that? Or some thing else.
The LED I got says on the box Power Dissipation: 75 mW. What does
that mean? Also Forward Current: 25mA. Is that how much mA it can
take? It also says Forward Voltage: 2.1V Ok I am thinking that
means that I will have a wire going from a power source on the board
then a resister to make it = 2.1V for the LED. But does the power
come from pin 0 or the VDD pin 21? How do I know how much mA is
there and how do I control that. I guess at this time I am thinking
that I would have a wire coming from pin 0 that would go to a
resister that would be connected to the LED and then a wire from the
short lead - on the Led to pin 23 VSS ground. Or would the Pin 0 be
the ground with power coming from Pin 21 VDD? Or would pin 0 go to
some kind of a relay? I really don't know to much about electical
stuff as you can probably tell and would really be glad if some one
could help me get started on this.
Thanks a lot

    As per your questions: Well yes it to both, it can
    sink 30ma into your projects.. Also you will not want
    to sink any more than that into the stamp... As for
    wirning, you wil need a ristor on the grounded side of
    the led. And yes you can power the circut from the
    stamp, and you will also want to ground it from the
    stamp. And well I would pass the the relay
    idea.....good luck

    There is a lot of good "starter" information on the Parallax Stamps-In-Class
    web site. Based on your post, I'd suggest downloading "What's a
    Microcontroller" from this link:

    http://www.stampsinclass.com/html_files/sic_curr/curriculum_wam.asp

    It will answer a lot of your questions and help you get started with your
    Stamp. After that, you can move on to:

    * Basic Analog and Digital
    * Robotics
    * Earth Measurements
    * Industrial Control

    Once you get the hang of things, electrically, you might also consider our
    StampWorks book (also available for download on the main site).
