Stamp2 OEM Serial Connection ?

I have just purchased and assembled a stamp2 OEM.
I completed the stamp ran the first four of five programs and every
thing ran fine. Then I unhooked the serial cable and noticed that
the stamp would not run. The power light comes on but the program
does not run. If I plug the serial cable in the program does run.
Also when I know hook up the stamp to the PC it does not reconize
the stamp as being there.
Has anyone ever had this problem? Did I mess up something when I
put it together?
