Basic Stamp with PIC-STEP IC, Stepper Controller

Does anyone have any experience working with the Basic Stamp and the
PIC STEP IC from JR Kerr?
It seems pretty logical getting it to work, but I have not been able
to do so just yet. Any advise on the serial communation setup and
data strings sent would be much appreciated.
