Any Mac OS X Users?

Hi,

I found a useful document at parallax for using os 9 and virtual
pc to comunicate via a keyspan pda serial port.

I want to use the same set up in an os x environment, so
Irepeated the process, and issuing the identify command from
the BASIC Stamp program I got a "stamp identified but not
responding, check power supply". From the more reccent 1.3
release, in the identification panel , I get Loopback and Echo but
no Device identification or version.

Anyone found a way to get things working under X? I can of
course boot into 9 and have it working, but I want it ALL!

many thanks
Tobie

There are three separate groups working on MacOSX stamp editors that I
know of. Haven't checked in on them in awhile, but since they're kinda
competing with each other, I assume someone will release something soon.

I can't say that I have gotten the Stamp software to program Stamps
under OS X, but I do have a couple of observations. (And would like
to hear others' comments.) Stampw does run okay, but does not
identify correctly. But I have not upgraded the keyspan drivers
    yet...

Keyspan has recently issued an upgrade Mac OS X driver that covers
all of the USB serial port adapters:

    <http://www.keyspan.com/products/usb/PDAadapter/downloads/>

There is an informative pdf file that talks about how OS X differs
from the earlier systems in regards to serial port management, and
why and why not to upgrade.

At MacWorld in San Francisco last month I did upgrade to virtual PC
v5 and also started tenuously using OS X, which takes some getting
used to for an old Mac hand.

I can say that the new Virtual PC runs _much_ slower than version 4.0
under OS 9.1 (and that was already slow). I can not say if that is
the fault of VPC or OS X, but I find it really unacceptable. For
example, a program (NS-BASIC for Palm) that takes 20 seconds to
compile on an genuine 500mhz PC takes over 10 minutes to compile on
the VPC5/OSX/G4cube450mhz. On VPC4/OS9 it took 4 minutes. It is
that bad. Maybe something can be tweaked, seriously?

The Stamp version 1.1 software was snappy enough to use under
VPC4/OS9. However I never got Stampw version 1.3 to work completely
in that same environment. It would identify and program the original
Stamps just fine, but not any of the multibank Stamps. I did not dig
into the serial port settings much to see if I could make it work. I
pretty much gave up on it and do all of the PC work on a PC.

    (Everything else on the Mac!)

It's a combination of the Carbonization of VPC and the way MacOSX
handles scheduling of tasks. Same reason Mac emulators never ran right
under NT, for that matter. I'm sure lots of people on this list could
explain the ins and outs of process scheduling under modern operating
systems, but it's not too related to stamps, so I'll just shut up now.

Upgrade those keyspan drivers, the fine folks at Keyspan are fans of the
    stamp :-)
