The stamp uses the 4 pins as described below (this is for the BS-2 using a
9-pin serial interface)
STAMP
> SERIAL PORT (9-pin)
(1) SERIAL OUT
> 2 (RD) RECIEVE DATA
This is the "pin" that the stamp uses to send data to the PC.
(2) SERIAL IN
> 3 (TD) TRANSMIT DATA
This is the "pin" that the PC uses to send data to the stamp.
(3) ATN
> 4 (DTR) DATA TERMINAL READY
This "pin" is used to alert the PC that the stamp is ready to communicate.
(4) VSS
> 5 (GND) GROUND
This is the ground used for the RS-232 signals.
Also, on the programming cable pin 7 (RTS) REQUEST TO SEND and pin 6 (DSR) DATA
SET READY are "looped back" or
connected directly to each other on the PC side. This is required to keep the PC
ready to accept communication
with the stamp.
