Trouble with Quadrovox

I purchased a Quadrovox QV306m4-P sound playback module. When I
follow the instructions in the sample program and hook up either a 8
ohm .1W mini speaker from Radio shack or an 8 ohm .25W PC speaker
all I get from the speaker are faint clicks when I run the sample
program. The program is intended to demonstrate the module by
speaking numbers and phrases. I think everything is wired correctly
and get the same results with either speaker and using a 9 volt or 4
AA batteries or a 9 volt ac adapter.
Has anyone else encountered this problem? I have checked and
rechecked the wiring. I have been using my BS2 stamp with my BOE-BOT
so that is working correctly. Does anyone have any suggestions?
