OT -- Solder Pots...

Hey Everybody,

If you'll bear with a slightly off-topic subject, can anyone point me in
the direction of information on how to use a solder pot? Is this a dip
soldering technique? I've never used one before and am looking for a
faster, small-scale production method other than hand soldering. Any link
or tutorial would be great.

Thanks,
Tim

    For dema

A solder pot is only for tinning the ends of wires. It can't be used like a
    wave solderer.

You need some liquid flux also. You strip the wire, dip the stripped end in
the flux, then into the solder pot -- it should tin the exposed wire
completely. You have to skim off the dross (skin) off the solder pot
    occasionally also.

Also solder pots need to be used with appropriate ventilation since they
will give off lead fumes and fumes from whatever flux you use. There are
also considerations regarding dross disposal and there may be some for
    scrubbing of the ventilation exhaust.

Thanks to all who replied regarding solder pots - much appreciated, now
I understand their use. As I mentioned, I'm looking for a faster method of
soldering the components of several small boards other than hand soldering
each one. A small production run of sorts -- any ideas?
