Fuel level sensor

I'm looking for a way to build a reliable sensor for fuel level in a fuel
tank that is two inches high, and has minimal clearance above the tank
(enough room to get wires out but probably not any kind of assembly more
than 1/4 inch high).
Anybody got any ideas?

Richard

I have used a low fuel warning switch from a caddy in a fuel cell, doesn't
give a level reading but warns you when the fuel cell is low so you don't
run out at WOT which could be dangerous on a high performance engine.

Hi I just want to point out that fuel can be dangerous if your curent
is shorted in your tank. however Your project sounds cool and good luck .

You may want to use the original analog sensor with a .. analog to
digital converter then you can choose to use leds or a lcd as your read
out.. just modify similar projects to fit your needs
