Stamp 1 problem

Hi, we have worked with Stamp 2sx's over the past while, but we are
trying to conserve power so we are switching to a Stamp1. Problem is
we can't seem to communicate to it. We have the Stamp.exe software,
we loaded a sample program, we built a cable, but when we do a Alt-R
we get a "Unable to Verify EEprom" message. (or something similar)

We are running the software under windows ME in a dos window. Could
this be the problem??

Any other ideas?

Thanks
Jody

Are you using the stamp1 dos editor, and a suitable cable?. If not, they are
different from bs2 seriess stamps to bs1. The stamp manual at parallax
    explains all.

Yes, we have the DOS editor, we built the proper cable, but it still
doesn't work. We hooked it up to our HP protocol analyzer, and it
appears as though the BUSY pin is staying high, and when you try to
program the stamp it does not even try to go low.

Our next attempt will be on a different PC with a PURE dos boot. I
hate WindowsME. It has caused problems before when programming old
    Motorola Radios.

    Thanks
    Jody

There is No hotsync on this PC, and I know the reset is not tied
high, but should I maybe tie it low (gnd) to be sure its not getting
    noise?

We tied it to our protocol analyzer. The Busy PIN is not even trying
to go low when you do a write.

Our next attempt will be on a pure DOS only machine.

    Thanks for the help.

    Jody

Make sure your parallel port is bidirectional in the BIOS.
