Spam to list

Is anyone else getting spam from yahoo including porn.

I have and have sent abuse messages to yahoo but they still are
comming in.

Maybe if you get a new list started we can get some spam proofing.
I like the idea of charging spammers 50$ per spam message then
sending
them a bill. Itf they don't pay then report to credit bureau as nopay
and give their credit rating heck.

I dont need cell fones from 40 different suppliers or addresses of 30
porn sites.

It is comming thru yahoo because it is to the yahoo address then
forwarded to my home 3-mail box.

Are they coming through the Basic Stamp list or do they just appear to be
originating from a Yahoo! email address?

If they appear to be originating from a Yahoo! email address, chances are
they really aren't. This is a common "trick" among spammers -- to send email
from one place and make it appear to originate from another. This is the
reason you get no response from Yahoo! Hotmail and Yahoo! get abused a lot.

Check out http://spamcop.net/ -- they have a bunch of info on spam, can help
you track where spam actually comes from, and will even email abuse reports
to the actual organization where the spam really originates from. The
downside is the for every 20 or 30 emails you report, you may receive a
reply from one provider apologizing for the spam and advising you the
    account has been closed.

I never saw any real reduction in the spam I got, but it made me feel better
that I was doing something about it.

I don't think you can go anywhere on the net without getting sucked into
    some sort of email list.

it, there is quite a bit from Yahoo accounts. Hmm....

I am getting a lot of Smile too. Let's all get together and send 10
emails to them per day. Multiplied from the number of members in the
group, we can shut them down. Maybe then they will listen!!!

What you need to do is learn how to get a copy of the message header and use
SPAMCOP to parse the header and tell you the real source of the message.

You are assuming the mail came from a Yahoo! account because it says so in
the message. This is like assuming a snail-mail letter came from California
because the return address on the envelope is in Los Angeles. The email
header, much like a postmark on a letter, tells you where the item more than
likely originated from, not where they want you to think its from.

    Leroy,

Bad example! You need to include the full original headers to convince me
all this Smile you're getting is really coming from Yahoo. I get a lot of
Smile too, some with Yahoo return addresses, but almost none of it really
comes from Yahoo. Yahoo and Hotmail are favorites of the spammers when it
comes to forged addresses. People who don't know how to read the full
headers complain to Yahoo and Hotmail and the spammer keeps on spamming
from somewhere else. If we're going to keep taking up list time with this
problem, we need to post the full headers so we can get to the real bottom
of this problem and then get back to Basic Stamps.

Spamcop is not something you "get;" it is a web-based service dedicated to
eliminating spam. You join, then you forward your spam (with complete
headers and body) to them and their software parses the headers and body
and sends complaints to appropriate places for you. Sounds good, but you
have responsibilities to assure all goes well so be prepared to read and
understand the FAQ and follow directions exactly.

The SPAMCOP site has information on how to see / read / copy the message
header. Here is the Reader's Digest version:

If you are using Internet Explorer, click on the spam message to select it.
Then click FILE and PROPERTIES, then click the DETAILS tab. Click the
MESSAGE SOURCE button and a new window full of text will open up. If you
want to cut & paste this into another document, hold down the CTRL key and
press A, then hold down the CTRL key again and press C. Go to your other
document and do a PASTE command.

Here is what the header looks like for your message to the list:

    **********

You are taking up message space with a subject not relevant to the stamp.
Will you please talk about your non stamp problems some where else.
    Thanks Steve

I'm not taking sides here, doesn't really matter to me. But let me tell
you one thing, spammers send to 10's of 1000's of email addresses... They
get them from various sources, none of them 'guaranteed'....
But if you want to assure the fact that you will start getting TONS of
them, just start replying. They they KNOW they have a valid email address.

Sorry for the off topic post, but I thought everyone should know...

The spammers are having a field day.

If people really _must_ post in here this off-topic stuff, can they at
_least_ snip all the spam from their quotes???
