Hi,

On the BS2, what is the difference between the Vin and Vdd pins?

    For Chris

Vin is the vol;tage from your power source, i.e., what goes to pin 1 of the
VR. Vdd is the 5 volt output of the VR.

This is correct for some implementations. I don't have
the Manual handy, so I won't be held to exact
voltages. If you supply power through VIN, which can
be a range of something like 6-14 vdc depending on
which model BS2 you use, then the VDD is indeed a 5V
output, which you could use to power other IC's.

However, this limits the current (milli-Amps)
available for you output pins, and the VDD output also
has limited current, so this layout is not ideal for
    all projects.

The other option is to supply 4.5-5.5 vdc to the VDD
pin: VIN is not used and current available for output
pins is increased. Typically this arrangement involves
a power supply with a 5 vdc output and plenty of
current, so that other IC's are, like the Stamp,
    supplied by this source.

Power suppies with 5 vdc output, whether the only
output or one of 2 or 3 or 4 voltages, are cheap. At
least, for some applicaions. For other applications,
though, the same power supply at the same cost isn't
cheap, and using say a 12 vdc supply line to power the
Stamp and in turn using the Stamp to power other 5 vdc
IC's is economical. This is one of those things
well-covered in the Manual (in this case the first few
pages), but best understood when it comes down to
    implementing it for multiple units.

Vin, is from your adaptor or power supply before it goes into the
BS2's regulator, making it ideal as supply for larger currents, 200
mA above. Vdd or Vcc is your supply after the BS2's onboard
regulator, avoid using this for high current consumptions because it
may drop the voltage supply on BS2 down.
