debug on handheld PC using the infared?

Is it posible to debug data off a basicstamp II through the infared port? I
would like to hook my BOE's serial port directly to a infared LED. Is it
possible to hook it up directly or do I have to have a driver or something? I
think it would be neat idea to do that for a BOEbot debug data wirelessly. or
can I hook it up to, say pin 1 and just serout? thanks
