A further note.
If you do not use the reference system. The reading will be inaccurate
because the source voltage will be the reference. If the source goes
up the reference goes up therefore the accuracy is a unmeasured
variable.
I would urge you to use the external reference even if you have to use
a voltage divider from a regulated source to develope te reference.
Just took a quick look at the data sheet available from parallax for
download. Looks like the adc 0832 wants a 3.5 volt reference.
You could use a 10k fixed from ground to the ref then a variable pot
about 20k to 50 k hooked up as a reostate from ref to reg from
battery. Adjust ref for 3.5 volts using a external digital voltmeter.
