Yes, with the PNP you would connect the Emitter to 5volts, Collector to the
load, and a resistor (~4.7K - 47K) between the Base and the stamp pin, then
making the pin low would drive the load, high would turn it off.

It is usually done with NPN's in what is known as open collector or grounded
emitter configuration so that the load can be connected to a different
voltage say +12V and the Collector switches the ground side.
