Converting a digital signal to LCD DISPLAY
Archiver
Posts: 46,084
I have a signal wire that varies from 0v to 1v. I want to express it
on a 3 digit LCD display. [.xxx]. I bought a LM3914 from Radio
Shack, but I do not know if it will work with an lcd display. It
seems it just lights up LEDs from low to high. If anyone can help me
or point me in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it!
Thanks
Rick

The LM3914 is a dot-bar LED display driver, like a VU-meter on audio
devices.
If you want to measure a voltage and display it on a LCD, you need a more
specific chip, containing an analog-to-digital converter and a display
driver. You also need a numeric LCD display.
You should have a look at Maxim's website (http://www.maxim-ic.com/). They
have a lot of chips to do that job (ICL7106, MAX136...).
Another solution, if you want to use a Stamp, is to connect the outputs of
the LM3914 to the Stamp, and program it to drive an alphanumeric LCD
display... but this is more complex and require programming. Depends on what
you want to do...
Hope this helps...
Best regards,
Phil.
