Windows (was Smoking mouse problems)

This is my experience with Windows and a PII 450:
1)Windows 95 was crash prone and offered no USB support.
2)Windows 95 OSR2 was more stable but still with no working USB support
notwithstanding all available patches.
3)Windows ME is stable, a little faster, and USB support is available.
No problems with the Stamp programs.
I tried also Windows NT and Windows 2000. They are absolutely not suitable
for other tasks than MS Office (within networks).
I don't plan to use XP because it is the same family as NT and 2000.

I run W2K on my main box and laptop. No problems with STAMP, Pic Start+,
bootloaders other than I had to turn off rx FIFO for latest Stamp editor. Tried
    W98
on my laptop with a bunch of patches and would not recover from standby
sometimes. Ran NT on my main box for years. So far USB support has worked as
long as W2K drivers exist for product.

Hi, Yes my computer ran like a top and better. The
only blue/red screen i've ever seen on it was due to
the stamp editor. I've yet to try xp on it..I do have
pentium 2 333 and plenty of ram. I found I could run
programs f0r slightly longer by decreasing or
removing pause statements. I won't be trying it in xp
for a little while yet....i have to get something
built first...but i'll be sure to let you people know.

What about windows 98? I have used windows 98 SE for years and found it to
be more stable than windows ME. Also windows NT/2000 can and will program
basic stamps and run other programs such as games faster and more stable
    than windows 9x.

    Just my two cents.

Windows 98 is a stable platform. The stamp software works with it under
    WIN98 and DOS.
