Besides the difference in price and number of I/Os. Are there other
issues to consider when choosing either the -24 or -40? Issues such as
integration, number of pins, the -40 not fitting into a project board
without an adapter. Does this 40 to 24 pin adapter reduce the number of
I/Os?

an adapter.
If you have a board that takes a BS2, you get a BS2P24. If you are building
a board, you get a 40-pin socket and use a BS2P40.
