Infrared Detector Module QuestionRadio Shack Part# 276-137b

Is this detector capable of detecting IR emmitted from a radio shack
IR emmitter accurately? I am trying to integrate the emitter/detector
into a BS2. When I use a voltmeter to measure the output of the
detector, it seems to read 5v when it detects no Ir, and then drop to
~3.xx v when I emit IR from a remote control. Am I missing something
here? On the back of the packaging, it says the detector reads 4.2v
when high (IR detected) and .5v low.

Am I right in my thinking? if so, why is the detector acting funny.

Of course, I have always had problems trying to make that thing work,
but I would suggest looking at the pdf file at RS.com on the
detector. I didn't even know it existed untill I found it by accident
the other night.
GOTO: rs.com, then Product Manuals, then Do It Yourself, then Fans
Lamps and LED's. Find your part. Hope that helps, I gathered from
your message that you didn't have that, just the package it came in.
