Linux copy problem

Hi Folks

This is a non-stamp related question.
Can any experienced Redhat Linux users help me out.
I am trying to copy the contents of a Redhat 6.0 CD to a folder in
Windows98SE on my notebook hard drive with the idea of running a hard drive
installation but my BIOS doesn't support booting from the CD ROM.
My problem is when I attempt to copy the contents of the CD ROM every folder
has a <translation table> and it refuses to copy these over.
Does anybody know of a way to copy these over in Windows?

My goal is to start running stamp projects from Linux.

Nick

I ran into that too. There is no way to do that exept to copy each file
over. Cant you boot onto a floppy? Also the hard drive install has to be on
    a diferent partition/harddrive.

    Hi Nick,

You might be able to install Linux from another
computer if you have a way to network your laptop with
another computer or network. Then you should be able
to do a network install. Check out the HOW-TO's on
the internet. I don't have any url's at this time. I
know our local Unix/Linux group (AAFUGIT -
http:/www.aafugit.org) has a newsgroup where you can
    post questions.

Hope this helps. Take care and have a nice day.

You'd be much better off creating an ext2 (Linux) partition and putting
the files there, either with the CD's rescue mode or a boot floppy. Does
the drive have free space for the new install?

Either that or boot from floppy, then install from the CD.

Putting the files on a "foreign" filesystem is just asking for trouble.

    Hi,

Why not use a boot diskette to boot linux and install a dual boot system
    using lilo?
Once in linux you can mount dos/windows drives and copy your linux cd.
(BTW, what is the benefit of the cd copy after a linux dual boot system)

    regards peter

    Hi,

It is possible to boot linux from an image file.
That way a separate partition is not required, although preferred.
You can use partition magic to create extra partitions without losing data.
