Basic Stamp Replica

Hello,
I am currently working on a project that because of the lack of
multitasking of the Basic Stamp will require many Basic Stamps to work
correcly. I cannot afford to purchase many basics stamps so my only
alternative is to build my own from scratch. Looking at the OEM (from
parallax) and the Stamp Stacks (from HVW Tech) I noticed that they both used
the SX chips from Scenix. I have all the equipment to program these chips
and a small stock of them. I was wondering if anyone knew how to wire the
chip to look like a Basic Stamp II or Basic Stamp IISX. Also the source code
for the chip. Any other help would also be greatly useful.
Thanks in advance,
Travis

I don't think Parallax will ever make their source code public, so you would
have to write your own interpreter. I can however offer you our SYNOP print
that features 11 SX18 and a basic stamp 2 (SX/E/P24/P40) that share an I2C
bus. Empty prints are still available for US$ 30 plus shipping (about US$
7).
All microprocessors run indepent (have their own resonator), you would
move specific (I/O) functions to the SX18 while the stamp serves as
the main application processor.
Take a look at http://www.boselectro.nl/synop.html
Drop me a message if you are interested.

duplicate the functionality of the BASIC Stamp and make it multitask. And my
guess is that you'll spend far more time trying to develop a "cheap" solution
than to engineer with parts that are available (i.e., OEM Stamp components).
No, the source code for the BASIC Stamp interpreter is not available. That
is Parallax intellectual property and covered by copyright laws.

PS: Are you sure you really require multitasking? The Stamp, when coded
appropriately, will do far more than most people are willing to give it
credit for.
