Stamper's,
Where would one obtain an H-bridge (24V, 4A) cheap? What do you people
use?

motors under or around 2 amps of current
drives a stepper motor, up to 3.5 amps, and 35 volts dc from Allegro.
they have other h-bridge chips as will.
a quick google search turned up these links.

The L298's work great and are easy to hook up. They cost about $3.49 or so
each.
If your really cheap you can use TIP 31 (NPN) and TIP32 (PNP) transistors
(four of one and six of the other) with six resistors on the bases and eight
diodes for transients. You can also substitute MCS3055 and 2955 transistors
as well. The transistors typically go for about $0.59 cents each. There are
several h-bridge schematics on the internet available. Some guys used TIP
105's and TIP120's and a couple of 2n222's do drive them as well.
If your fancy you can substitute power MosFET's, some of these MosFETS have
almost no on resistance to speak of; you can run 30-60 amps through them and
they barely get warm.

Our L298 Kit is just that. It is a complete kit: PCB, all parts and instructions
for $17.95 US. Connects directly to a Stamp

I just got a handfull of beeper dc motors(small) and I want to create
a simple controller for them(foward and reverse and stop) I tried the
article by scott edwards on the parallax site for a half bridge. I
can't get it to work. Can anyone give me a suggestion?
Thanks,
Curtis
control them is with a Pololu mini controller.

If you want to grunt it out yourself, the new NX-1000-24/40 board has an
opamp driver onboard that's easy to use -- check out the docs for the
circuit and code:
